Photo Recap: Cedalion Workshop at BIFOLD

BIFOLD hosted the international Cedalion Workshop, introducing the new Python based toolbox for fNIRS and DOT analysis to about 140 participants from around the world.

From August 24 to 25, 2026, BIFOLD hosted the international Cedalion Workshop, welcoming around 140 participants on site in Berlin and online from around the world. The 1.5-day, hands-on event introduced researchers, neuroscientists, engineers, data scientists, and physicians to Cedalion, a new Python-based toolbox for multimodal fNIRS and DOT analysis.

Cedalion integrates and extends core features of HOMER3 and AtlasViewer while tapping into the Python ecosystem for modern data analysis and machine learning. Following the toolbox's main release in 2026, the workshop opened with a hands-on introduction to fNIRS measurements from NIRx Medical Technologies, then moved through the toolbox's foundations: data structures and preprocessing, quality assessment, motion correction, and the general linear model.

The workshop was organized by the Boston University Neurophotonics Center (David Boas, Meryem Yücel, Laura Carlton, Shannon Kelley), NIRx (Giovanni Hering), and the IBS Lab (Shakiba Moradi, Tomas Codina, Eike Middell, and Alexander von Lühmann). The European Research Council (ERC) and artinis / NIRx supported it.

BIFOLD thanks all participants, on-site and online, for two engaging days at BIFOLD.
