Dr. Haralampos Gavriilidis
Postdoctoral Researcher
Affiliation: BIFOLD
Haralampos Gavriilidis is a Postdoctoral Researcher at DIMA, TU Berlin. His research focuses on federated data systems, cross-platform data analytics, and composable data systems. He earned his PhD at TU Berlin under the supervision of Volker Markl, with a dissertation on query processing and interoperability mechanisms for federated data systems. Prior to that, he completed his M.Sc. and B.Sc. at TU Berlin, where he specialized in big (and small) data management systems. His work has appeared in leading data management venues, including SIGMOD/PACMMOD, PVLDB, and ICDE, and he was awarded Software Campus funding for his project PolyDB on efficient and effective query processing for federated data analytics. Before his studies, he spent time in industry as a full-stack developer, building custom content management systems and web applications.

Researcher Spotlight: Dr. Haralampos Gavriilidis
From fixing a broken childhood computer to reshaping how the world shares information: Dr. Harry Gavriilidis is on a mission to make querying across disconnected databases faster, cheaper, and simpler, because in a data-driven world, fragmentation is a fundamental problem.
VLDB honors NebulaStream demo
A perfect conclusion for the BIFOLD team at VLDB 2023 in Vancouver: The Nebula Stream team received an honorable mention for the best demo. In total, eleven researchers from the team of BIFOLD director Volker Markl participated in VLDB 2023 in Vancouver, one of the most important database conferences worldwide.
8 researchers represented BIFOLD at SIGMOD 2023
Eight members of the BIFOLD team took the chance to showcase their recent work at SIGMOD 2023 in Seattle through a diverse array of presentations, including research papers, workshop papers, and a demo paper – all of them underscoring the institute's commitment to cutting-edge research in the field of data management.
Software Campus grant for two BIFOLD PhD students
Two BIFOLD PhD students, Lennart Behme and Haralampos Gavriilidis, have been awarded a Software Campus 2022 grant to conduct their own research projects as junior research leads. The Software Campus (SWC), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), is an executive development program aimed at shaping tomorrow’s senior IT executives.
Three papers presented at EDBT 2020
Researchers in TU Berlin’s Database Systems and Information Management (DIMA) Group and DFKI’s Intelligent Analytics for Massive Data (IAM) Group presented three systems papers at EDBT 2020, the 23rd International Conference on Extending Database Technology, held from March 30 to April 2. Originally planned to take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, this year’s EDBT conference was held online instead.
