Reviewing Girls' Day 2026 at BIFOLD

Eleven Participants Explore Computer Science and IT Security

On Girls' Day 2026, the Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data (BIFOLD) welcomed eleven young women for a day dedicated to computer science and IT security. The event offered participants the opportunity to gain practical insights into current research areas and to engage directly with scientists from BIFOLD's research community.

The day commenced at 08:45 a.m. at the main building of Technische Universität Berlin, from which participants proceeded together to the BIFOLD premises. There, the program was structured around three hands-on stations, each designed to provide an authentic introduction to a distinct area of computer science:

  • Digital Forensics: Participants investigated a laptop in order to locate and recover hidden data.
  • Cryptography: Participants encrypted and exchanged confidential messages with one another.
  • Programming: Participants explored the fundamentals of how code is written and executed.

The workshop was designed and conducted by three researchers from BIFOLD's Machine Learning and Security (MLSec) Research Group: Anna Wimbauer, Stefan Czybik, and Jonas Möller. BIFOLD extends its sincere thanks to them for sharing their expertise and for offering the participants a substantive and engaging introduction to their fields of research.

BIFOLD sincerely thanks all eleven participants for their curiosity, dedication, and enthusiastic participation throughout the day. Initiatives like Girls' Day are wonderful opportunities to inspire young women to explore careers in science and technology. BIFOLD is excited to welcome more future cohorts in the years ahead.
