Workshop: Beyond Spreadsheets - Hands-On Data Analysis with Open Technology

(Open) data is often available in tabular formats. Small datasets can be explored in spreadsheets. However, when data becomes large, you may think that advanced IT expertise and expensive proprietary systems are required. Wrong. Today, open data management technology enables efficient querying of millions of records on a standard laptop using basic SQL or Python. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn core concepts, practical skills, and how to further develop your knowledge.

BIO

Stefan is a data management researcher and software engineer from Berlin. He is a postdoc in the Database Systems and Information Management group of Prof. Markl at TU Berlin.

Before, he was a research assistant in Prof. Plattner's Enterprise Platform and Integration Concepts group at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam.

His dissertation is titled “Integer Linear Programming‐Based Heuristics for Partially Replicated Database Clusters and Selecting Indexes”.
