A critical pathway to safe-by-design AI
Technische Universität Berlin and BIFOLD are pleased to welcome Prof. Yoshua Bengio, the world's most-cited living scientist, to a public lecture in Berlin. As the capabilities of advanced AI continue to grow, so do its risks. In his public lecture at TU Berlin, Yoshua Bengio shares his perspective on the recent AI safety incidents involving autonomous agents, their risks in the real world, and the urgent societal and technical safeguards needed to mitigate these dangers. He also discusses the progress being made at LawZero, his research organization dedicated to building safe, honest AI and reliable guardrails.
Frontier AI companies continue to push model development forward without a solid plan to fix the alignment problem, but the need for concrete technical safety solutions remains more urgent than ever. In this talk, Yoshua Bengio presents his non-profit startup LawZero’s work toward building highly capable, demonstrably safe-by-design AI. Unlike the current approach, LawZero’s approach, Scientist AI, operates with zero hidden goals or preferences: every prediction is interpretable, auditable, and verifiable.
Join Professor Bengio for a deep dive into these alignment challenges, LawZero’s research progress, and the organization’s upcoming expansion to Berlin.
Date & Time: Friday, November 6th, 2026, 5:00 pm, CET
Registration: The event is fully booked.

Short-bio:
Professor Yoshua Bengio is the most cited living scientist across all fields and recipient of the 2018 A.M. Turing Award, considered to be the "Nobel Prize of computing." He is the Co-President and Scientific Director of LawZero, a nonprofit dedicated to developing safe-by-design AI systems as a global public good. Independent of market pressure, LawZero is supported by the Gates Foundation, Schmidt Sciences, Founders Pledge, among others. The organization was incubated by Mila, the Quebec AI Institute, which Bengio founded.
A professor at Université de Montréal, Yoshua Bengio co-chairs the UN’s Independent International Scientific Panel on AI and chairs the International AI Safety Report, backed by more than 30 countries and international organisations, including the EU, OECD and UN. Professor Bengio is a Fellow of both the Royal Society of London and Canada. He has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada, Officer of the Order of the British Empire and a Knight of the Legion of Honor of France.
