Photo recap: LNDW 2026

DFKI, Fraunhofer HHI, PTB and BIFOLD joined forces to give visitors a representative impression of what the Berlin AI Square brings together

On June 6, 2026, BIFOLD took part in the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften in Berlin together with three fellow members of the Berlin AI Square: the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), the Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI), and the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI). The four partners joined forces to give visitors a representative impression of their work and of current developments in artificial intelligence.

As part of the program, BIFOLD hosted an interactive workshop on Large Language Models (LLMs). The session drew a large audience, and additional seating was arranged so everyone could take part. We hope participants left with a clearer understanding of how chatbots and language models work. Our thanks go to the workshop hosts, Lisa Raithel, Fabio Barth, and Leonhard Hennig, for preparing and leading the session.

The evening continued with a Science Slam in the auditorium of the Anna-von-Helmholtz-Bau, which welcomed about 140 visitors throughout the night. The contributions covered a wide range of topics, from artificial intelligence in medicine and the workings of the Cloud to the measurement of the human brain and the science of temperature. We would like to thank Ariane Ziehn, Marion Brickwedde, Lennert Bürger, René Eisermann, and Martin Seyferth for their talks, in which they shared their research in an accessible and engaging way. Three of the presentations were recognized with prizes by the audience. Our thanks also go to Julia Offe for moderating the Science Slam and for creating a welcoming and open atmosphere.

We would like to thank all visitors for their interest, their questions, and their engagement throughout the evening. We also thank our colleagues at PTB for hosting and the collaborative organization of the event.
