Professor Dr. Pinar Tözün joins BIFOLD as a Visiting Scientist

We are very happy to welcome Associate Professor Dr. Pinar Tözün, from the IT University of Copenhagen (ITU). Beginning on August 28, 2023, Professor Tözün will be joining BIFOLD as a Visiting Scientist, engaging in collaborative research above all but not only with Prof. Dr. Matthias Böhm.

Her research focuses on exploiting modern hardware (processors and storage) more effectively for data-intensive systems. Currently she concentrates on resource-aware and resource-constrained machine learning.

Before joining ITU, she was a research staff member at IBM Almaden Research Center (San Jose, CA, USA) for three years, where she was part of the team that led the development of IBM Db2 Event Store. She received her PhD from École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. During her PhD studies, she was a member of the Data-Intensive Applications and Systems Laboratory (DIAS) working under supervision of Prof. Anastasia Ailamaki and served as one of the main developers and maintainers of the Shore-MT storage manager.

Her current research interests align closely with BIFOLD's ongoing research at the intersections of data science and machine learning. "I am very much looking forward to my stay in Berlin and collaborating with researchers from BIFOLD. This presents an excellent opportunity to explore new and exciting research areas," commented Prof. Tözün.

To foster further national and international scientific cooperation, BIFOLD invites internationally recognized scientists for short-term research stays or gives them the opportunity to spend their sabbatical in one of its research groups. It is not possible to apply for the program, visitors can only participate upon invitation.

Professor Dr. Pinar Tözüm is a Speaker at the BIFOLD Summer School 2023.
