Guest Visit: NCHC (Taiwan) meets BIFOLD

Berlin, May 26, 2023. Today the Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data (BIFOLD) welcomed a Taiwanese delegation from the National Center for High Performance Computing (NCHC), National Applied Research Laboratories. BIFOLD Director Prof. Dr. Volker Markl, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Nagel, Director of the Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (SCads.ai) and Dr. Sven Schmeier, Chief Engineer and Associate Head of the Speech and Language Technology Lab at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), met the director of the NCHC, Dr. Chau-Lyan Chang, and two deputies, Dr. Fang-Pang Lin, and Dr. Steven J. H. Shiau. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) organized the brief exchange. The NCHC was founded in 1991 and is Taiwan's only national-level supercomputing center. The NCHC plays a leading role in cloud technology that possesses a large computing, storage, networking, and platform integration, providing domestic users with the Could Integration Service of High HPC, high-quality networking, high-efficiency storage, big data analysis, and scientific engineering simulation. Dr. Chau-Lyan Chang was a senior researcher in the Computational Aerosciences Branch at NASA Langley Research Computing Center and became the director general in 2022.
