BIFOLD Graduate School Welcomes New Cohort

New PhD candidates embark on their journey at BIFOLD, specializing in research in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Management and their intersection.

The BIFOLD Graduate School hosted its Welcome Days on January 23rd and 24th, 2024. This event marked the commencement of an enriching four-year journey for the new cohort of doctoral candidates. Each graduate is individually supervised and will receive comprehensive support as well as specialized seminars, workshops, and an extensive international network of esteemed scholars and institutions. Among the candidates welcomed into the BIFOLD program are Naima Elosegui Borras, Laure Ciernik, David Justen, Khaled Kahouli, Johannes Maeß, Baris Büyüktas, Taha Tekdogan, Winfried Ripken, and Fadli Damara.
 
During the two-day Welcome Event, attendees were treated to a series of engaging activities, including a Welcome note by BIFOLD co-director Prof. Dr. Klaus-Robert Müller, as well as introductions to ongoing research projects led by prominent figures within BIFOLD. Additionally, a guest lecture by Prof. Dr. Tilmann Rabl on "Data Engineering Systems – Enabling Productive Data Science" provided valuable insights into emerging trends in the field.
 
On day two, the support structures at BIFOLD and the TU Berlin were introduced to the new cohort. The ZEWK gave a motivating impulse talk for a successful start into the doctorate and presented its program. Further, the Centre for Junior Scholars, the TU Berlin Family Office and AI Grid showcased their activities and answered questions.The Welcome Days were a team effort made possible through the help of research group leads, research assistants, and staff.
